Boundaries at work: what to say when no feels impossible

Most people I work with know exactly where their limit is. The hard part is the sentence. So here are a few you can borrow until you find your own.
Sentences that hold
- I can do this by Friday, or that by Wednesday. Which matters more?
- That’s outside what we agreed. I’m happy to quote it separately.
- I don’t answer messages after six. You’ll hear from me in the morning.
Why it feels so hard
A boundary said out loud feels like a risk to the relationship. In practice it’s usually the opposite. People trust you more when they know where you stand.
